Luxor and West Bank
The beautiful town of Luxor is our base of this one week exploration of some of the greatest monuments in Egypt. We take in all the major sites and also many of the beautiful out-of-the-way places not on any normal tourist route. The pace is relaxing; the history absorbing and the monuments are out of this world!

 

Site Summary - Luxor

 

Karnak & Luxor Temples,  Luxor Museum, Seti I temple, Ramesseum, Ramose, Memnon, Dendera by boat, Ay (Western Valley), Valley of the Kings (three tombs), Metasegar Mountain Walk, Rekhmire, Sennefer, Hatshepshut, Esna, Edfu, Valley of the Queens, Deir el Medina, Medinet Habu.

 

Day 1 – London/Luxor

 

Fly London to Luxor with EgyptAir and transfer to the first-class Old Winter Palace Garden Pavilion for seven night’s bed and breakfast.

 

Day 2 – Karnak/Museum

  

Our tour begins with an in depth look at Karnak with its many temples, avenues, obelisks, courtyards taking time to explore lesser known areas. Later we will visit the beautiful Luxor Museum and there will be a visit to the splendid Luxor Temple. (B)

Day 3 – The West Bank

 

We cross to the West Bank and explore the lovely Temple of Seti I and the legendary Ramesseum. We will also enter the tomb of the Vizier Ramose with its superb reliefs. There will be a final stop at the Colossi of Memnon. (B)

 

Day 4 – Dendera

A wonderfully relaxing day as we board a cruise boat and sail up the Nile to the great temple of Dendera to view the Greco-Roman Temple of Hathor. Lunch will be served on board. This evening to the interesting Mummification Museum. (BL)

 

Day 5 – The West Bank

We start with the rarely visited Western Valley to enter the tomb of Ay followed by the incomparable Valley of the Kings where you will be able to enter three tombs of your choice plus the boy king Tutankhamun’s tomb.

 

From here, we ascend the mountain of Meretsegar, ‘She Who Love’s Silence’ for spectacular views of the entire necropolis. Next, the fine tombs of Nobles Rekhmire and Sennefer.

 

We will look at the amazing tombs at Assasif before walking the causeway to Deir el Bahri and Hatshepsut’s Temple. (B)

Day 6 – Esna/Edfu

A full day trip south with a first stop at Esna to enter the Temple of Khnum followed by a visit to the best preserved cult temple in Egypt, the Temple of Horus at Edfu. (B)

 

Day 7 – The West Bank

Time to explore the beautifully decorated Valley of The Queens before visiting the workmen’s village
at Deir el Medina and its artisan’s tombs. Finally the gigantic and well preserved mortuary temple of
Ramesses III at Medinet Habu. (B)

 

Day 8 – Luxor/London

Fly from Luxor to London with EgyptAir and arrive early afternoon. (B)

 

 

Expert: Dr. Ayman Wahby Taher is full-time lecturer in Egyptology at the University of Mansura, Egypt, and worked formerly at the  Supereme Council of Antiquties under the Dr. Zahi Hawass. He is currently Egypt Correspondent for "Ancient Egypt Magazine".

  

 

Expert: Dr. Jocelyn Gohary is an Egyptologist living and working in Cairo. she has lectured widely and published many books. She has specialist knowledge of the monuments of Lake Nasser and has been working with AWT for many years.
