This conference presents a series of illustrated lectures from an exclusive and exciting panel of experts covering a range of fascinating and absorbing subjects. We delve from prehistory to the latest discoveries examining archaeology and history from new and intriguing angles over a long weekend including several social events with the experts and our guests of honour, the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon.

 

Romuald Schild - The Neolithic Sanctuary of Nabta Playa

The ceremonial center of Nabta Playa provides evidence that some of the roots of Ancient Egyptian beliefs, magic and religion lie buried in the South Western Desert sands.

Terry Jones - The Barbarians

A fresh approach from Gauls to Goths examining Rome’s neighbours and the motivations of both sides over a crucial period of history

 

Barry Kemp - Amarna

The site director will discuss what is currently happening at Amarna, the city of Akhenaton.

Reading University is located in the heart of the Thames Valley. Set in spacious landscaped grounds it is an excellent location for a two day conference.

 

The Palmer Theatre at Reading University will be the setting for our extensive lecture programme over the course of the weekend. The auditorium has comfortable seating allowing clear viewing of the lecturers and the large projection screen.

 

The accommodation will be in halls of residence set within the campus a short walk from the theatre. The rooms are all single and have a choice of en-suite or shared facilities.

 

The conference package includes teas and coffees, two lunches and dinner on Saturday evening with optional bed and breakfast accommodation available on campus.

 

Free parking is available on site. Reading University is easily accessible by train with direct lines to the West Country and the North and London Paddington only 25 minutes away.
