Megalithic Temples older than the pyramids of Egypt, mediaeval cities, the Great Siege, the fortifications of the Knights and of course the George Cross awarded for Gallantry in World War II by George VI. The history we uncover on the sunny Mediterranean Islands of Malta and Gozo is as awe inspiring as the warmth and friendliness of the people. We are escorted by top local guides throughout as we enjoy the wonderful landscapes and explore the many different periods of occupation that have all left their mark on these magical Islands.

There are more pyramids in Sudan than in Egypt! For over two millennia, Nubia, ancient Kush, was subject to Egyptian influence or occupation, and when, in the late eighth century BC, the tables were turned and the Kushites took over Egypt, they were fully Egyptianised. Although soon chased out of Egypt by the Assyrians, the Kushites’ Egyptian-African culture endured until the fourth century AD. This tour, accompanied by Dr Aidan Dodson, will visit the key sites of Kushite history.

This is an unusual journey through Lower Egypt looking at some dramatic and intriguing, but rarely visited sites. Based in Cairo we travel from Tanis to the Faiyum and explore the many pyramid fields and abandoned cities along the way, including some sites completely exclusive to AWT. Few tours visit the Faiyum and its fascinating archaeology – and even fewer do it in 4x4’s, allowing great access to the more difficult to reach sites.
