This unique new tour is themed around several individuals, some dating back to the 5th Dynasty. Through their writings we learn about patterns of life, their hopes and aspirations, relationships with king and court, religious beliefs and the afterlife. Bill shares his knowledge and takes us on a voyage of discovery using ancient voices to bring to life some of the inscriptions we can still see today in Upper Egypt, visiting sites that span many generations and hundreds of years.

This exciting journey in four wheel drive vehicles will lead us from the bustling city of Marrakech through the High Atlas and the Anti Atlas Mountains to the Sahara. Leaving the tarmac for many hours we follow ancient trade routes to some lesser known areas of this beautiful country. We will look at ancient rock art, astounding geology and the Berber lifestyle along the way.

In a change to our original programme we are now offering a new itinerary for our Anniversary Tour. We spend some time in Cairo before travelling out in to the Delta and the Faiyum where we find some amazing archaeology from all periods in Egyptian history. On arrival in Luxor we look at many famous sites and visit areas well off the beaten track. Many hidden treasures are to be found along the Golden Coast. Once we leave Cairo and head across the desert to the Red Sea we visit wonderful remote monasteries, ancient desert quarries and spectacular scenery. A special event will be the chance to meet up with the team from the University of Sorbonne working at Ain Sukhna who are currently excavating newly discovered pharaonic harbours. The Red Sea Hills reveal centuries of archaeological history in the Eastern Desert that we are now just beginning to understand.

This tour based in Luxor meets up with some of the archaeologists working on various excavations and restoration projects this year. We meet the local Antiquities Inspectors on both the East and West Banks and with Hourig Sourouzian Head of the Amenhotep III Temple Conservation Project. We also have a special AWT private permit to enter KV17, the wonderful tomb of Seti I.

Aswan is considered the most charming and peaceful city in Egypt and has the loveliest setting on the Nile. It combines natural beauty with fascinating archaeology that dates back to the very earliest period of Egyptian history. This week in Aswan allows a real chance to learn about this ancient border town between Egypt and Nubia, and visits many intriguing sites.

At this time FCO advice is against all but essential travel, we are hopeful that this will soon change and we will be able to offer our 'Grand Tour' to this fascinating and beautiful country. Ancient sites, spectacular scenery, wonderful examples of Islamic architecture, overwhelming hospitality and the treasures of Teheran all await on this proposed trail of delight through the wonders of Persian and Islamic Iran.

Dylan Bickerstaffe takes a look at the women behind (and sometimes on) the throne of Egypt. The tour features a spectacular highlight - entry to the fabulous tomb of Nefertari in the Valley of the Queens, Luxor. A very rare privilege! We spend time in the Faiyum before continuing to some rarely visited sites in Middle Egypt, including Beni Hassan, Meir and Akhmim. There are more pyramids in Sudan than in Egypt! For over two millennia, Nubia, ancient Kush, was subject to Egyptian influence or occupation, and when, in the late eighth century BC, the tables were turned and the Kushites took over Egypt, they were fully Egyptianised. Although soon chased out of Egypt by the Assyrians, the Kushites’ Egyptian-African culture endured until the fourth century AD. This tour, accompanied by Dr Aidan Dodson, will visit the key sites of Kushite history.

Medhat Saad, one of our most experienced expert guides, leads this extensive tour of the Great Oases of the Western Desert. This journey offers a chance to look at some amazing archaeology that is still being discovered and recorded as well as spectacular out of the way sites that few know how to reach. Medhat will share his wealth of knowledge and introduce us to his many friends whilst travelling through incredible landscapes to explore some of Egypt’s lesser known and rarely visited sites, including the unforgettable White Desert.

This is an unusual journey through Lower Egypt looking at some dramatic and intriguing, but rarely visited sites. We begin in Luxor before heading to Abydos for a very full exploration of the area, including Beit Khallaf. Next we head north, via Sohag and its fascinating sites, before heading south west into the desert for visits to Kharga and Dakhla Oases.
