TED AND LYLA BROCK'S EGYPT

A unique opportunity to spend time with two respected Egyptologists out in the field where they have worked for many years.

 

Day 1 – London/Luxor

 

Fly London to Luxor with EgyptAir and transfer to the fi rst-class Old Winter Palace Garden Pavilion for seven nights room and breakfast. Set quietly in the gardens and using all the hotel amenities this is an ideal base for the week.

 

Day 2 – West Bank

 

We will travel across to the West Bank for an introductory talk from Ted and Lyla Brock in the Temple of Merneptah with its informative museum. Afterwards we visit the great Mortuary Temple of Ramesses I I I at Medinet Habu and then to the Valley of the Queens and high offi cials to enter the tombs of Princes. To end our tour today we will visit the workmen’s village at Deir el Medina to study the homes and enter the tombs of the craftsmen who worked in the Valley of the Kings. This evening there will be an informal lecture. (B)

 

 

Day 3 – Luxor Temple

 

A superb day as we explore Luxor Temple in detail with Ted Brock who was involved in the study of the water table and will have a great deal of fascinating information to impart. We will investigate the whole temple area in detail. This afternoon a relaxing felucca trip is included. (B)

 

 

Day 4 – Karnak

 

Today we head for Karnak, the Precinct of Amun for a very full visit to the greatest temple ever built. Starting with the imposing main axis of the temple we will then move on to several of the surrounding temples in the precinct. We will also take time to wander around the open air museum to see Hatshepsut’s Red Chapel and other reassembled shrines. This evening there is another lecture from the Brocks. Day 5 – West Bank

 

This morning we cross the river with Lyla Brock to discuss in great detail her own concessions at TT89, the tomb of Amenmose and TT120, the tomb of Anen, both of which she has evaluated and recorded and one of which we have applied for permission to enter. We will also visit the tombs of Kheruef and Ankh-Hor at Asasif and the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri. There will be a further lecture this evening linked to today’s and tomorrow’s site visits. (B)

Day 6 – Valley of the Kings

 

We will proceed to the Valley of the Kings with Ted Brock and listen to him explain his work in KV8 with the massive granite sarcophagus of Merneptah. We will of course also discuss other work in the Valley such as the recent fi nding and clearing of KV63 and work on Ramesses VI, which we have applied for permission to enter as well as time to enter three further tombs of Ted’s recommendation. (B)

 

Day 7 – Museums

 

A leisurely day to explore the Luxor Museum with its fine pieces and wonderful statuary in detail and without hurrying. We will also visit the nearby Mummifi cation Museum. This evening there will be a farewell group dinner with Ted and Lyla Brock after a really stimulating and rewarding week. (B)

 

Day 8 – Luxor/London

 

Fly Luxor to London with EgyptAir arriving later the same day. (B)
