This trip focusses on Saqqara, the vast necropolis that served the capital of Memphis throughout the pharaonic era. During our week we will enter as many Mastabas as possible. AWT has obtained special permits from the Ministry of Antiquities, allowing exclusive access for a number of monuments on the itinerary. Highlights include entry to the Step Pyramid, the Second Dynasty tomb of Ninetjer and a visit to South Saqqara to view the latest work of the French Archaeological Mission.

The Temples on The Lake

The iconic temples of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel are far from being the only ancient monuments along the shores of Lake Nasser – a distant stretch of the Egyptian Nile which repays the closest exploration. Many of the evocative sites on this itinerary, if visited at all, are normally only a brief cruise stop; but travelling by road in a smaller group allows us a genuinely intimate experience. We are accompanied throughout by Egyptologist and best-selling author Bill Manley, who will provide his specialist insight into the pharaonic tombs and temples with relaxed talks on various evenings as well as being on site with us for a chat at any time.
