This special journey by road begins in Cairo and travels all the way to Luxor, Ancient Thebes. We explore Amarna, the city of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, and some off the beaten track sites en route.

DEPARTING 3rd FEBRUARY 2025

We have special private permit to enter the hidden tomb of Senusret III in Abydos. We also have private permits to enter the spectacular closed tombs of Thutmose III and Horemheb in the Valley of the Kings.

Day 1 - Monday 3rd February - Independent arrival in Cairo

On arrival in Cairo, you will be met by one of our representatives and taken to the Crowne Plaza Hotel at West Giza where you will check in for four nights on room and breakfast basis.

Day 2 - Tuesday 4th February - The Great Pyramid

To the Giza Pyramids and guests can purchase an optional extra ticket if they wish to go inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu. Lunch at a local restaurant with spectacular views of the Plateau is included. Finally we visit the mighty Sphinx. (BL)

Day 3 - Wednesday 5th February - Saqqara

A full day visit to the ancient necropolis of Saqqara. Entry to the Step Pyramid, Unas Pyramid, Old Kingdom tombs, the Serapeum, and more. Lunch at Sakkara Palm restaurant included. (BL)

Day 4 - Thursday 6th February - Grand Egyptian Museum

Today we plan a full day at The Grand Egyptian Museum. Lunch own arrangements at the museum. (B)

Day 5 - Friday 7th February - Beni Hassan

Today we head south on the road trip to Assyut. We visit the tombs of Beni Hassan en-route. We travel with lunch boxes today as it is a long drive. On arrival in Assyut we check in to our newly refurbished corporate hotel for two nights on half board basis. (BLD)

Day 6 - Saturday 8th February - Amarna

A full day at Amarna visiting all the major sites. We enter the Royal Tomb of Akhenaten, the Southern and Northen Tombs and look at the palaces. We see the Aten Temple and site of the archive and central city. We travel with lunch boxes and will picnic at the charming rest house where we can buy hot and cold drinks and use the facilities. Day 7 - Sunday 9th February - Meir Tombs

We leave our comfortable hotel armed with lunch boxes and we continue the journey south stopping at the rarely visited rock-cut Governors’ tombs at Meir. We continue our journey to Abydos and check in at the House of Life Hotel for one night on half board basis. (BLD)

Day 8 - Monday 10th February - Abydos

The highlight of our visit will surely be the special AWT private permit to enter the hidden tomb of Senusret III. We view some of the finest reliefs in Egypt within the Temple of Seti I. We walk past the Osireion and across the desert sands to the Temple of Ramesses II. We have lunch at our hotel before continuing to Luxor. On arrival we check in to the Old Winter Palace, Garden Pavilion Wing, for four nights on room and breakfast basis. (BL)

Day 9 - Tuesday 11th February - Karnak

This morning we head to Karnak for an in-depth tour, including time in the Open Air Museum. We return to the hotel on the coach for free time over the lunch break. Later we visit Luxor Museum and Luxor Temple. (B)

Day 10 - Wednesday 12th February - West Bank I

We cross the Nile, and head to the Valley of the Kings. We have three tickets for tombs of those open on the day, plus we also have a special private permits for entry to the tombs of Thutmose III and Horemheb – both closed to the general public. We also include tickets for the tombs of Tutankhamun and Seti I. We have lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Hatshepsut’s Temple. (BL)

Day 11 - Thursday 13th February - West Bank II

Today we visit the Queens Valley including that of Nefertari if open (at time of writing the tomb is closed for restoration work) We also visit Deir el Medina and the Ramesseum. After a local lunch we will visit some of the Nobles tombs most notably that of Ramose. (BL

Day 12 - Friday 14th February 2025 - To Cairo

This morning we take our internal flight to Cairo (included). Once in Cairo we will have lunch at Al Azhar Park and will also visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Later we will check in to the Meridien Hotel at Cairo Airport for one night on room and breakfast basis. (BL)

We will assist with transfer to the terminal for your international flights next day.
